My Poor DVD Burner :(

Last Friday, I think it really upped and died. Sort of. I had been backing up and suddenly, this tok-tok-tok sound and a whirring sound started. Uhmmm......NOT good at all!! Aaargh! So I whip out the ehd and backed up via Time Machine (the-E-E best thing for backing up!) while hurriedly texting iStudio. When the darn sound wouldn't stop ---a dvd was still inside!!!--- I quickly shut down and waited for a response from a computer tech person.

Solution to get the disc out? Hold the eject button while it's booting up. Whew! Major crisis (at least in my mind) averted. For now.

After work, I go to iStudio and tell them to take a look inside MacMac. Yes, my laptop has a name, hehehehe. And MacMac was actually SHY, i.e., he would NOT act up in front of the techie guy!!! Grrrr! Typical kid eh? Anyway, I tell the guy to keep trying with several discs, and he's bound to find the problem. Sure enough, the optical drive wouldn't read the disc. Redemption. Sort of.

So first thing this morning, I bring MacMac over to freakin' Makati just to get him a check up. And the usual attitude from the little guy: he was shy and would not show the techie guy over at Apple his symptoms (more like his disease!!!) Aaargh! So the guy taught me how to take quick screen shots if something of the sort happened. He reset the hardware parameters of little MacMac and he *seemed* ok. I actually burned a disc right after his quick fix.

So off I went to work....and while doing a few sample Rate Sheets for the Columbarium, I was burning in the background. Crossing my fingers that the resetting fixed the problem, I burned 2-3 discs before the tok-tok-tok and whirring sounds reappeared. Grrrrr! Pissed, I stopped backing up to let the drive rest. I mean, what's a girl to do?!?!

I scrapped, LOL!

Precious Computer Space

O.M.G. Can I just say it? I am running on less than 2 gigabytes of space on my laptop right now. Yes, you may kill me now, hehehehe. I am living in the extreme danger zone, I know. And I just about FREAKED earlier this evening, just as I was about to leave the office.

I had finally gotten a new external hard drive and I happily clicked on Time Machine. Ok. Everything going great. Check. I also had Excel and Photoshop running at the same time. Check. No biggie. My laptop has 4 gigs of RAM, so no prob. I had a kazillion folders open for some inane reason. And NO, I was NOT downloading anything.

I was working on a layout, had finished it and clicked on save. And all I saw was that little round rainbow ball spinning. Cool, saving. And spinning. And spinning. And spinning. Drat! Right click on the PS icon and sure enough, at the top, the dreaded words "application not responding". Aaaaaargh!!!!!!

Holy crap, I tell you!!! My precious layout, kaput! No choice, I had to force quit the darned program if I wanted to go home! It was taking forever to back up, too (initial back up for that particular ehd), so I quit that too. Then all my other programs wouldn't quit properly, none of my windows would close normally.....and I swear I was about to pull all my hair out!!! Free Smiley Face Courtesy of www.FreeSmileys.org

Ok. Breathe. Breathe. A million times breathe. Which I did on the way home. Willing mac-mac to be ok when I got home. Thankfully, he came back to life and I started everything from scratch: backing up with Time Capsule (which took forever, by the way) and scrapping that lost layout.

Something good that came out from that was that I scrapped with a vengeance, coming up with these:
LAGEN TRAIL
LOOK AT THE SEA
JUNIOR BRIDESMAIDS

See? I knew scrapbooking was relaxing! :)

Freeing Up Some Space

I finally did it! I am freeing up a whole LOT of space from my laptop!!! With my move to an iMac, I have found it very hard to scrap the past couple of weeks. I have files in my laptop, on my hard drive, and on the desktop. Yes, as in plural. I have been going crazy trying to juggle all those files and trying to figure out where I put what. Sheesh!

Anyhoo, I've been transferring ALL my scrapbooking files from my laptop into my new 500 gig EHD. I figure I'd just lug this EHD around and use it to access all my scrapbooking files. Added weight in my bag, but hey, what's another pound or two right? Then with files in hand, so to speak, I can now scrap using my wonderful new laptop. I have just beefed it up from 1 gig of memory to a wonderfully speedy 3 gigs of RAM!!! Whoohoohoo!!!

A lot of the gals in the digiscrapping community stand by their Dell computers. I've never tried Dell out but the girls say that Dell specs are some of the best out there for the price. For both laptops and desktops. I like the ones that come with a slim casing for desktop computers. They're all the rage now, especially with desk real estate becoming more and more precious. At least, to me it's precious. I hate working with a lot of clutter on my desk; most days, though, I just deal with it.

Rondic has also said that Dell has been transforming their marketing and has been pretty successful at it. I know a Dell was one of his options for a new laptop. Yup, it's that time for our laptops: Dic, Lai, Mom, me. We've gotten our laptops within a few months of each other and I know mine's going on it's 3rd year....so yes, I think it's time to consider other options.

Wish me luck! I'm *still* waiting for files to be copied onto my EHD and waiting to be deleted. So far, I've freed up 40+ gigabytes of space! Now I'm crossing my fingers Photoshop will be flying soon! :)
